Halsey Opens On how she lives With Endometriosis

The singer shared an honest note to fans in which she describes her diagnosis and tells fans they're 'not alone.'
Riding high off her 2015 debut album Badlands, Halsey is gearing up for a bustling 2016, having just announced a U.S. summer tour and a brand new single. But amidst that whirlwind of fame and hustle, the 21-year-old has taken a moment to speak candidly to her fans about a battle that’s affecting her personal life.
On Thursday evening, Halsey took to Twitter to open up about being recently diagnosed with Endometriosis, a chronic disease that attacks women’s reproductive systems. The disease occurs when tissue that normally lines...
the inside of the uterus starts to grow on the outside the uterus, causing painful inflammation. Fatigue, painful periods, pelvic pain and infertility are just some of the common side effects that women with Endometriosis face.
In her note, Halsey described the frustration of being repeatedly misdiagnosed, especially when her symptoms got in the way of her performing. She told fans she understands how the “debilitating” disease can make you feel “like a prisoner in your own body,” but ultimately left them with a sweet and empathetic promise: She’s here for you.
Fans immediately started flooding Halsey with supportive messages; some describing similar illness that they have, and others simply commending her strength and sending their love to her.
This kind of admirably honest and important message isn’t totally uncharacteristic of Halsey. In the past, she’s been outspoken about living with bipolar disorder, revealing to Elle last May that she was diagnosed with the mood disorder as a teenager.
She later told The Advocate, “I’m open about having bipolar disorder, I’m open about being of mixed-race, I’m open about being bisexual, and I have this wantingness to talk about it, and for me, it’s about more than being a role model for any specific community. I think it’s about wanting to be a role model that’s comfortable with myself. That’s unafraid of being myself.”
Much like Selena Gomez’s decision to reveal she underwent chemotherapy for Lupus, and Victoria Justice opening up about her Hashimoto disease, Halsey’s message will hopefully help drive home the point that she so often makes clear in her music: You’re not alone.
