Two persons died after consuming locally brewed illicit gin, popularly called “ogogoro” in Ugieda, South Ibie, in Etsako West local government area of Edo state.
The local ruler of the community, (Aidonigie of South
Ibie), Alhaji Kelvin Danisi, disclosed that a ban would be placed on
sales and consumption of the illicit gin. The chairman of Etsako West local government council, Mr.
Yesufu Busari, said the council would liaise with relevant stakeholders,
especially dealers of the local gin, to enlighten the people on current
happenings.

Months after several persons allegedly died in Ondo and Rivers
states, after consuming locally brewed illicit gin, popularly called “ogogoro” two persons reportedly died on Tuesday, January 26 in Ugieda, South Ibie, in Etsako West local government area of Edo state, after consuming ogogoro.
Three other persons who also consumed the substance suspected to be
contaminated, are said to be presently hospitalised and doctors are
battling to save their lives.
Sources in the town had it that the five persons complained of
unusual hotness and aches in their stomach after consuming the local dry
gin.
No fewer than six persons were feared
dead in a multiple crash on Thursday in Awka, the Anambra State capital,
after a tanker conveying petrol rammed into four vehicles.
The incident occurred around the Esther Obiakor Estate junction on the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway at about 6pm.
Though the casualty figure could not be
officially ascertained at the time of filing the report, a security
agent, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told our correspondent that
no fewer than six persons lost their lives in the crash.
He said, “The people that died in the
accident cannot be less than six. But rescue effort is still ongoing, so
the figure cannot be officially confirmed. If you give us more time, we
will give you the actual figure.
“We have also rescued some people and we are rushing them to a hospital because they were injured.”
The Anambra State Fire Service, the
Federal Road Safety Corps, the police and some sympathisers were seen
trying to help in the rescue effort at the scene of the accident.
Other vehicles involved in the accident are a tipper, two buses, a car with number plate, YA262ENU, and a motorcycle.
A firefighter, Uchechukwu Samuel, said he and his colleague arrived at the scene immediately they were contacted.
He said the situation had been put under control.
Nnanna Kanu, a Superintendent of Police, attributed the crash to a brake failure.
He said “It was a case of brake failure on the side of the tanker.”
Mr. Okoli Chinedu of the FRSC said the
tanker was descending the road from the Onitsha end of the expressway
inward the Enugu area when the accident occurred.

Robots could soon be able to read your mind - and we won't be able to stop them, experts claim.
If
expert predictions come true, by 2030 smartphones , tablets and
computers will be able to examine our brain activity to see what we are
thinking.
Initially
this will be used for security as a kind of 'pass thought' - the user
thinks of a specific song or thought which the device recognises and
then unlocks itself.
But a panel at the World Economic Forum, in
Davos, warned of the terrifying possibility of hackers reading people's
innermost thoughts.
Nita Farahany, professor of Law and
philosophy at Duke University, said: "Beyond two-factor
idenitification...is using neural signatures - 'pass thoughts'.
"It turns out every person thinks quite differently about the same thing.
Prof Farahany: 'There is no legal protection' more after the cut...
"So you could think like a song or a little ditty in your
head while you are wearing a consumer based EEG device and then that,
which has a unique neural signature, can be used as your pass code."It
turns out that's an incredibly effective, incredibly safe and almost
impossible to replicate pass code, so there is discussion about using
pass thoughts."
She added: "Then you've got to really think about privacy.

Adewusi was born in Eggon local government area of Nasarawa state to
Pa Abraham Ishola Adewusi and Eyiolawi Abeje. He made history when he
was became the youngest commissioner of police at the age of 32. He rose
to the position of the IG at the age of 45.
